Building A Better Future

We often talk about “doing more with less.” Usually, this refers to our mission of working towards a sustainable future, creating fewer well-designed pieces and addressing wasteful consumerism. Our dream of a more sustainable future also comes with a responsibility to help solve the world’s problems. This is the only way we can create this future together.

Black lives matter. Black voices matter. Black experiences matter.

The freedom to live without discrimination is a basic right and systemic racism is a crime. Systemic racism and white supremacy are devastating not only the lives of Black people, but our society, our humanity, and our planet.

A Better Future

In the past, we have supported and donated to causes that we believe contribute towards a better future for our community, ranging from: reducing poverty and climate change, to LGBTQ+ rights and womxn’s empowerment.

All of these are still important. But right now, we need to talk about Black Lives Matter and how we can support, now and in the future.

Here’s what we have done:

  • Pledged $25,000 to  Black Visions Collective and The Bail Project. We selected these two organizations as a team: Black Visions Collective supports Black leadership and community development and The Bail Project provides free bail assistance for people in need.

  • Had several hard, uncomfortable conversations as a team. One of the biggest things we can do together is to learn with and from each other. Listening. Unpacking our privilege. Deciding on the actions we will take to build a better future.

  • Appointed diversity and inclusion champions to hold us accountable. Our team is small—we are 15 full-time people, 93% female, 27% POC (including Black) and includes LGBTQ+ and disabled* people. We can do better and we’re working on it.

  • Committed to sustained conversation, education and community action as a team to foster open conversation and education through books, articles, films and art that center the Black experience.

Here’s what we commit to, now and in the future:

  • Amplifying the voices and talent of Black people both in front of and behind the camera.

  • Making a conscious effort to continue to diversify our team and our Board.

  • Centering Black causes, organizations and communities in future campaigns and supporting through financial assistance, volunteerism and mentorship.

  • Continuing to engage in proactive action and conversation about dismantling systemic racism and white supremacy, and supporting our team in doing so.

  • Sharing transparent updates with you as we improve and holding ourselves accountable to our community.

There’s a lot more we can do. We always appreciate your feedback, especially constructive points that help us create a better future (email us at hello@thisisaday.com).

We talk often about doing more with less. We know now is the time to do more.

    With love,

    Team ADAY
