Our fabrics are made with super powers

Crafted for longevity, durability and easy care

One of our sustainability fundamentals is that we don’t believe in replacing the content of our wardrobes every season. Instead, we strive to create comfortable, seasonless essentials that do more and last longer.

Made in Italy, our Back to Front Shirt Dress is designed to be versatile for work from anywhere. Crafted from the lightest wrinkle-free technical crepe, it's machine washable, can be worn 5 ways and perfect to bring wherever life takes you.

We use considered, optimized design to create pieces that can be worn different ways, for different activities, on repeat. We believe that better design solves problems—and these solutions gift you freedom and joy.

We believe the future is flexible. So is your ADAY. Each piece is versatile, packable, super comfortable, machine washable and always has pockets.

The fabrics we use are crafted with superpowers, often recycled and made in a way that is better for the planet.

Our goal is to continue discovering and developing fabrics that are long-lasting, super comfortable, and have the lowest impact on our planet.

Reducing virgin fibers, upgrading with superior quality

We use synthetics because of their superpowers and unique blends as fabrics, improving the longevity, durability and easy care of our products. When sourcing fabrics, we focus on sustainable, and long-lasting fabrics such as recycled, regenerated, biodegradable and bio-based fibers, renewable fabric manufacturing, eco-friendly dyeing and finishing, and innovative performance properties. In fact, 77% of our styles are made from recycled, regenerated and natural materials (and we are also working on creating sustainable alternatives).

All of the fabrics we use are Bluesign® or OEKO-TEX® certified. This means when our fabrics are made, they do not leech harmful chemicals into the environment. Other certifications our fabrics hold are R.E.A.C.H., GRS-Global Recycled Standard, and Responsible Wool Standard (RWS).

Our mission is to work towards a better future: to close the loop on our resource use, to take less from the planet and to keep materials in circulation. Our suppliers sign Commitments to People and Planet, ensuring their care for ethics, environment and the well-being of their workers.

Our fabric mills are chosen for their appetite for innovation and sustainability. With them, we are among early adopters of more sustainably-made fabrics, especially replacing virgin fibers with recycled ones at an equal or superior quality.

We have also taken a number of steps to reduce the shed of microplastic and are focused on sourcing more innovative alternatives. Our synthetics are made with continuous filament fibers, which help reduce the shed of microplastics due to the long fiber that doesn’t break or shed easily. Our Biofleece is designed to reduce microplastics, made from TENCEL™ on the inside which biodegrades within 90 days, even in marine water (compared to conventional fleece, made from polyester and sheds 1,000s of microplastics).

Our fabrics are crafted with super powers

All our fabrics are unique with their own properties, but here are some properties we look for in across all our fabrics:

Breathability

The fabric structure allows air to circulate between the fibers of our fabrics. The breathable qualities make you feel cooler and more hygienic. Breathability is the simplified term for moisture vapour transmission rate (MVTR), which is the measure of how quickly moisture passes through the fabric. The knit structure of our fabrics allows the direct passage of air through it and removes moisture vapour away from the body.

Easy care

All of our fabrics are easy care, which includes machine wash cold and hang dry. This also saves over 2,000 pounds of CO2 per year vs. washing in hot water. This low temperature wash / low abrasion method also helps preserve the longevity of your product as tumble drying can cause fibers to break and elastic to warp.

Wrinkle-Resistant

Our fabrics do not absorb water easily due to the type and blend of fibers, hence they have a natural resistance to wrinkles. The added elastane also helps as it wraps around the fibers allowing them to recover easily. We do not use chemical treatments to achieve wrinkle resistance, therefore our fabrics will respond slightly differently after washing or traveling. Make sure to hang your garments after to ensure the wrinkles fall out.

Quick Drying

As most of our fabrics have a fine knit structure and use man-made fibers, they do not absorb water easily and can spread the water out along the fine knit structure onto a larger surface providing more space for evaporation. This allows them to dry quickly as well as repel water, more so than conventional fabrics.

Moisture Wicking

Moisture-wicking quickly moves sweat to the fabric’s outer surface and dries rapidly so that sweat does not saturate the fabric. As a result, your body can regulate its temperature efficiently and the fabric touching your skin has a dry, non-sticky feel. Our fabrics move sweat through the structure of the fabric and like our quick-drying properties moves water along the knit structure and a larger surface area allowing the water to evaporate quickly.

Thermal

Our thermal fabrics have a brushed knit with a fleece handfeel on the inside and matte finish on the outside, mimicking fleece. The soft brushing process on the inside enhances the thermal insulation properties, it controls humidity, ensuring breathability and keeping the body temperature steady and keeps you warm.

Pilling resistant

Pilling happens when the surface of fabric experiences a lot of wear and tear and abrasion in a particular area. This is common in high pile fabrics (fleeces) or natural fabrics that have staple (short) fibers. The majority of our fabrics are continuous filament (long) fibers and high twist yarns which both reduce the pilling of the fabric, as they do not break easily over the surface of the fabric, making it hard for the surface to scuf and create bobbles. The other benefit of pilling resistance is the reduction of the shed of microfibers. For our natural fabrics or wool products, we advise using a fabric shaver once in a while to smooth the surface and reduce pilling.

UV protection

Due to the inherent fiber structure, density of the knit, unique construction and opaque microfibers, our fabric filters the sun’s UV rays. Our fabrics offer a high level of protection against the damaging effects of UV rays. Our fabrics with UV protection are UPF 50+ (for example, in our Technical Silk products). Laboratory tests are carried out according to the AS/NSZ 4399 standard.

82% of our mills have water recycling and a purification process to clean and reuse water before disposing of it safely. This fabric mill in Como, Italy has their own biological water purification onsite, to clean the water before reusing it back into the production process. It creates the Technical Silk fabric used in our bestselling Something Borrowed Shirt.

All fabrics are either vegan or responsibly sourced

We believe in treating animals with respect and compassion. We are committed to never using materials that require the suffering or killing of animals. This partially drives our choice to use “technical fabrics” are the majority of our fabrics, which are vegan as they are either manmade or derived from plants.

Two of our fabrics (Better Knit and Seasonless Merino) are responsibly sourced (cruelty-free) from animals; these materials include wool, recycled cashmere, and merino wool. These are sourced from sheep in South Africa and Australia and both fabrics maintain the following certificates: Non-mulesed, Global recycled Standard (GRS) and Responsible Wool Standard (RWS).

The fabric mill we partner with to make these fabrics is a Woolmark and Woolmark Blend Certified manufacturer. Our recycled cashmere is made from upcycled scraps from luxury fashion production straight from the factory floor.
